My dad recently got a MotoRAZR MAXX V6 with UMTS/HDSPA Internet access enabled. I tried to figure out how to use it under MacOSX Leopard to give him a backup Internet connection when ADSL doesn’t work.

Here is the quick ‘n’ dirt way:

1. Go to http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ and download the scripts for Motorola 3.5G (HSDPA) phones
2. Extract the archive somewhere in /tmp
3. Enter directory /Library/Modem Scripts/Generic GPRS.ccl/Contents/Resources
4. Rename Base Script.ccl to Base Script.ccl.bak
5. Copy the file Motorola HSDPA CID1 from /tmp to the current dir and rename it to Base Script.ccl
6. Follow the usual procedure to configure Internet access with GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HDSPA, in short:
   • From the Bluetooth menu choose Set up Bluetooth Device
   • Put you Mobile phone in Find me mode (refer to your mobile user guide)
   • Follow the instructions on screen to pair your phone with your Mac
   • At the end, be sure to mark Access the Internet with your phone’s data connection and press Continue
   • Make the following selections: Phone Vendor Motorola, Phone Model GPRS (GSM/3G), username/password/APN as provided by your mobile operator, CID 1 .
   • That’s it! Choose Connect from the Internet Connection menu.
